I’m Amy-Jean Hahndiek, hello and welcome to my portfolio website. I offer a broad creative skill-set as a ZZP’er (freelancer), including branding, UI/UX, web design, book concepts and illustration. I enjoy working with innovative brands and collaborations with awesome people. I’m currently based in The Hague, Netherlands and am originally from Cape Town, South Africa. Ik ben nog steeds Nederlands aan het leren maar ik spreek graag Zuid-Afrikaans!

For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for all things design – which I cemented by completing a BA in Visual Arts at Stellenbosch University, South Africa from 2007 to 2010. My majors included Visual Communication Design, Illustration and Art Theory. It was there that I fell in love with the Afrikaans language, which serves me well as a gateway to learning Nederlands.

I developed my business and commercial design skills as a student by freelancing. I continued freelancing for some months after graduation from a creative shared studio space in Cape Town. Following that I worked for a digital publishing company, Future Media Group where I designed layouts for several digital sport and lifestyle magazines.

Between 2012 and 2014 I worked for two brand and advertising agencies – ABNF and Machete Creative. It was here that I honed my branding and commercial conceptual skills – working across both print and digital, with a strong focus on web design.

In 2014 my love of books and layout inspired a move to Quivertree Publications, where I designed and illustrated several award-winning culinary and lifestyle books, I also assisted with web design, design of marketing material, and some art directing.

Since July 2016 I have been flying solo as a freelance designer, with a strong focus on UI/UX. I believe it is important to move forward on the cutting edge, which inspires me to pursue the latest technologies for interactive design and keep abreast industry developments in my field. Overall I enjoy working on creative projects that make a meaningful positive impact on society.
